Beauty review: Entire Shiseido IBUKI Range

Hi Dolls, how are you doing today? I don’t know if you remember this, but I used to work for Shiseido Canada. The perks of working for a cosmetics firm is that you get lots of freebies (not the case with MAC though :’( ) So I was lucky enough to get to try pretty much the entire IBUKI line. I have already used up the trial products and used the others enough to be able to give an in-depth review, so here it goes.
30 day trial size

First, let’s hear what Shiseido claimed about those products:
“SHISEIDO IBUKI: Bring your skin to life. Build inner resistance, for smooth, trouble-free skin. Shiseido Ibuki is a new kind of skincare for women who want to stop dealing with the same skin problems, over and over.”

After using this range exclusively for a month, my opinion towards this line is neutral. To me, it does not stand out from any other skincare products that I’ve tried. Overall, it was nice on the skin, but nothing extraordinary. Now, let’s break it down to individual products.

IBUKI Gentle Cleanser CLAIM: “A gentle cleanser that immediately lathers into a creamy foam, floating away the impurities and excess surface cells that lower the skin’s resistance, without stripping away skin’s essential moisture. Leaves skin feeling fresh and silky smooth to the touch.”
One thing that this cleanser stood out for me was the scent, when I was learning about new products while I was working for the company, they emphasized on the importance of scent at Shiseido. I have to agree, this cleanser has a very pleasant, calming yet refreshing fragrance. It’s not overwhelming, just perfect. The cleanser itself is just like any other foaming cleanser I’ve tried, it foams up nicely, leaves the skin feeling very refreshed. I don’t really have too much to say about this product. I enjoyed using it overall.

IBUKI Softening Concentrate CLAIM: “A concentrated softener that penetrates quickly and deeply into the skin’s surface. Building the skin’s resistance to problems by filling it with moisture, this comfortably rich formula also enhances the effects of additional skin care steps.”
Shiseido loves to promote its softeners, and I usually enjoy this extra step in my skincare regime. However, I can’t say I love this particular one. I can’t really place why I didn’t enjoy using it, maybe because it has a gel like texture, that feels a little bit thick, compared to the other liquid softeners I’ve tried. I don’t think it sinks into the skin fast enough, it feels very slippery on the skin. I would recommend you to go into a store and try it for yourself. Also, I personally thought the scent of this softener is a bit too strong. It reminded me of detergent.

IBUKI Refining Moisturizer CLAIM: “A multi-functional moisturizer that fundamentally improves visible pores, the appearance of breakouts/ blemish marks and skin roughness caused by dryness, and maintains moisture all day long. By filling the skin with moisture, it builds resistance to problems, and creates a smoother, more refined skin texture.”
Wow, that’s a lot that they are promising. What do I think? This to me is another generic moisturizer that is thin and can be easily absorbed into the skin. During the month that I was using Shiseido exclusively, my breakouts did not seem drastically fewer than normal, so I really don’t think the line has many anti-breakout properties. So if that is what you were hoping to get from this range, I suggest you look elsewhere. Having said that, I quite enjoyed the moisturizer, because of its runny consistency, it’s perfect for the summer month, I like to use this during daytime. They have one moisturizer that contains a bit of SPF, but I always put sunscreen on top of my skincare anyways, so that wasn’t a problem.

IBUKI Refining Moisturizer Enriched CLAIM: “A multi-functional moisturizing cream that fundamentally improves visible pores, the appearance of breakouts/ blemish marks and skin roughness caused by dryness, and maintains moisture all day long. By filling the skin with moisture, it builds resistance to problems, and creates a smoother, more refined skin texture.”
Again, not much blemish control properties for me. I like this equally as the regular moisturizer. This one is thicker, but it didn’t clog my pores and it wasn’t heavy at all. A great nighttime or wintertime moisturizer!

IBUKI Eye Correcting Cream CLAIM: “A cooling eye cream that addresses dark circles, puffiness and fine lines, for immediately more vibrant eyes. Helps the appearance of eye area achieve resistance to stress factors resulting from lack of sleep.”
To be very honest with you, I had such a high expectation for this product. When I was learning about the range, I was so interested about this because of what it promises. It does have a light pink tone to it that is supposed to brighten up the under eye area instantly, but I didn’t see that on my self at all. I am not the best to review eye cream as I am only 18, so I don’t have any fine lines or anything like that. I don’t think this helps with puffiness in the morning. I use it simply to moisturize the eye area, nothing more.

Overall, I think IBUKI is a lovely range that leaves my skin feeling really soft and moisturized. Although it doesn’t help control blemishes, it didn’t worsen my breakouts either. So if you are in the early 20s, looking for a rage of basic moisturizing products, I would recommend this line. Just don’t expect too much from them, they’re nice, but not amazing!

OOTD: Velvet midi

Hi dolls, I hope you are all having a fabulous day. Where I live, lately, it’s been quite rainy, so I haven’t been able to take any new outfit posts. This is the last one I have from the shoot I mentioned earlier. Hopefully, the weather will become better as I have already planned loads of outfits.

bustier: American Eagle
Midi skirt: Nasty gal
Heels: Aldo
Clutch: Aldo
Sunglasses: Dolce & Gabbana
Lips: Essence lip liner - red blush

For today, the focus of this outfit is this velvet midi skirt. I am so in love with this piece. This is actually my very first midi skirt and I am hooked. Definitely need to check out more! This particular piece has a subtle plaid print and lace trimming at the bottom. It’s very slimming and the material hugs the body nicely. I paired it with this basic white bustier, it helps brighten up the look and keeps the outfit balanced. This clutch is actually from my prom last year, I haven’t used it since but I think it goes nicely with this outfit. What do you think? I don’t personally own that many pairs of heels, simply because I run a lot of errands via busing or walking, so heels aren’t that practical. So you will likely to see the same couple of pairs rotating between outfits, I apologize in advance.

Let me know how you would style a midi skirt? If you know any places that sell beautiful midi skirts, please definitely let me know.

Until next time,

Review: Revlon Matte Really Red Lipstick

Hi dolls, I hope everyone is having a beautiful day! Sorry for the lack of posts lately. I am a part of the makeup team for Miss Chinese Toronto under Mercelle makeup studio, so I have been busy preparing and practicing. I want to squeeze in a lipstick review for you all, and that is for Revlon’s matte lipstick in Really Red.

excuse the rough job, i took this in a hurry
I have always been a sucker for matte lipsticks, and finding a perfect matte red lipstick has always been my makeup mission. I think I might have found the one! As you can see from the photos, this particular lipstick is not exactly matte (like MAC’s retro matte formula), but in a way, I appreciate it more. It’s extremely pigmented and smooth to apply. It’s not drying whatsoever. This is the kind of red that makes your teeth extremely white, yet it’s not too cool-tone that it might make some people look ashy.  Overall, I think this is a beautiful and classic red lipstick, it should definitely be a staple in every makeup lover’s stash. Plus, the affordable price tag makes it even more appealing. Huge thumbs up for Revlon lipstick range, it’s phenomenal!

Until next time,

OOTD: Chain and peplum

Hey dolls! Happy belated Canada day and happy early fourth of July. I always found it quite interesting that US and Canada have such close national days. Anyhow, today, I have another outfit for you all. This has got to be my favorite out of all the ones I’ve shot the other day. I apologize for the plain background, it’s just that I live in a very plain residential neighborhood with nothing interesting going on. This brick wall gotta do.

Onto the outfit: I absolutely adore this black peplum jumpsuit that I got from Nastygal. I know I recently wrote a quite negative review on the website, although my opinion stays the same, this jumpsuit is my love. Black is my favorite color to wear, although I always to try push the boundaries and step out of my comfort zone, black is definitely my default color. This statement chain necklace is such a loud piece, I really don’t know how to style it other than with solid colored clothing. I hope you enjoy this outfit and until next time

Beauty review: SEPHORA COLLECTION Ultra Shine Lip Gloss

Hi dolls! I hope you are all having a fabulous day. Today, I would like to share with you all a lip gloss that I am absolutely obsessed with. Usually, I am not a lip gloss kind of girl. My lip gloss collection is maybe 1/5 of my lipstick collection, just to give you an idea. However, this lip gloss completely blew my mind and it was definitely love at first sight. Without further ado, let me introduce you to this fabulous lip gloss: SEPHORA COLLECTION Ultra Shine Lip Gloss in Shiny pin-up pink.

First of all, I got this product as a 100 point perk at Sephora. Like I said, I am not really into lip glosses and to be quite honest with you, majority of my lip glosses are gifts from friends. My collection was missing a bright pink one and I thought since it’s free, why not give it a try. Surprisingly, it’s absolutely brilliant! I’ve never tried anything by the Sephora brand, so I wasn’t sure what I should be expecting. It comes with quite a unique hourglass shape applicator, which makes it really easy to apply to the lips.

Like the name suggested, this lip gloss gives a beautiful shine. Even though this particular shade doesn’t contain any shimmer or glitter, it’s so glossy and shiny that it adds a perfect amount of poutiness to your lips.

I wasn’t wearing anything underneath the gloss, and this is only one layer. I think the picture speaks for itself. It’s too good to be true! It doesn’t really have any scents, which is great because I have very sensitive lips and I never know what could irritate them. It’s not sticky at all yet it stayed on really well without bleeding or smearing. All in all, this is just a fantastic lip gloss and I would definitely purchase it once I run out of this small sample size. So what do you think? Let me know some of your favorite lip glosses. Until next time,
